Emergency Dental Care
In case of dental emergency such as bitten tongue or knocked out tooth, the most important thing is to stay calm and take necessary measures to avoid more damage and subsequent restoration costs. Do not panic, reduce swelling by applying cold compresses and contact our office at Garden State Dental in East Brunswick immediately! Our dental professionals will evaluate the gravity of the situation and tell you right away how to proceed.
Knocked off permanent or temporary crown
In case of a displaced temporary or permanent crown, put it back on the tooth if possible or take it with you to your dental appointment.
Broken, knocked out or fractured tooth
If your tooth has been knocked off or broken, don’t panic and contact our office immediately. Our dental professionals will schedule an emergency appointment and advise you what to do in the meantime. There are various measures you can take to prevent further damage on your teeth:
- If your child’s primary tooth is loosened, whether as a result of an injury or an emerging permanent tooth, have him or her bite into a piece of apple or caramel – primary teeth typically separate from the gum fairly easily.
- If you fracture a tooth, make an appointment with our emergency office immediately. The affected tooth can be smoothed or otherwise repaired by the dentist depending on how vast the damage is. You can also take pain medication and apply a cold compress to avoid swelling.
- If you dislocate a tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water and if possible, place the tooth back in its socket. Otherwise, put the tooth into a solution of saline, warm milk or your own saliva and bring it with you to the emergency office. Never hold the tooth by its root, always hold it by the crown! Use Ibuprofen to reduce the pain and a cold compress to prevent extensive swelling.
