PREMEDICATION

Your dental care is a team effort in which we ask you to participate. No one knows you better than you know yourself. No one knows your medical history better than you do. We need your input in order to make your treatment the best it can be.

Under certain very specific conditions, it may be necessary for you to take medication before you undergo treatment in our office. The American Heart Association provides us with recommended regimens (medical dosage guidelines) of antibiotic protection. If you have a heart condition, including, but not limited to heart murmur, mitral valve prolapse or a history of rheumatic heart disease, you will be placed on prophylactic (preventive) medication before your dental visit. If you have any artificial joint replacement such as of your hip or knee, you will also be directed to take premeditation.

The purpose of such premedication is to prevent infection of your heart or the joint that was replaced. If you fall into either of the above categories, you will be given extra care and attention so that your treatment and follow up are as complete and comprehensive as possible. Please complete your Health History carefully so that we will know as much as we possibly can about your medical history and special needs.
