PERIODONTICS

Periodontics involves the diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases. Periodontics includes home care instruction, root planing and curettage, probing and polishing of teeth. Sometimes periodontics involves surgical treatment, as well. Dr. Donald Toporoff, a periodontist, is on our staff and available to serve you.

During your oral exams, our dental team looks for potential periodontal problems in your mouth. To participate in your own oral health care, here are some symptoms that might indicate that you need and may benefit from periodontics.

  • Your gums bleed during brushing or flossing.
  • Your teeth feel like they have shifted or loosened.
  • Pus is coming out from between your teeth and gums.
  • Your gums feel tender, sore or painful.
  • You have persistent bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth.
  • Your gums seem to have separated from your teeth.

Periodontic treatment may be the answer to the problem you are experiencing. Ask your dentist and he will be happy to discuss whether periodontic (gum treatment) may be helpful to you.

Dr. Toporoff is a periodontist. He deals with the supporting structures of the teeth, diagnoses and treats gingivitis (inflammation of the gum tissue) as well as periodontitis (gum disease). He may perform simple cleanings to complicated bone surgeries, bone grafting where indicated and do soft tissue grafts to treat gum recession.
