PERIODONTICS

Periodontics involves the diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases. Periodontics includes home care instruction, root planing and curettage, probing and polishing of teeth. Sometimes periodontics involves surgical treatment, as well. Dr. Donald Toporoff, a periodontist, is on our staff and available to serve you.

During your oral exams, our dental team looks for potential periodontal problems in your mouth. To participate in your own oral health care, here are some symptoms that might indicate that you need and may benefit from periodontics.

  • Your gums bleed during brushing or flossing.
  • Your teeth feel like they have shifted or loosened.
  • Pus is coming out from between your teeth and gums.
  • Your gums feel tender, sore or painful.
  • You have persistent bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth.
  • Your gums seem to have separated from your teeth.

Periodontic treatment may be the answer to the problem you are experiencing. Ask your dentist and he will be happy to discuss whether periodontic (gum treatment) may be helpful to you.

Dr. Toporoff is a periodontist. He deals with the supporting structures of the teeth, diagnoses and treats gingivitis (inflammation of the gum tissue) as well as periodontitis (gum disease). He may perform simple cleanings to complicated bone surgeries, bone grafting where indicated and do soft tissue grafts to treat gum recession.

    ORTHODONTICS
    An Introduction

If crooked, crowded or poorly aligned teeth are a problem for you, orthodontics can provide a variety of solutions.

Dr. Silver, our orthodontist, can explain the various procedures that can be used to correct such difficulties. Braces are just one of the many ways your smile can be improved with orthodontic treatment.

    Overbite and Spacing Overbite

Orthodontia involves the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of tooth to tooth or bone to bone discrepancies. It also involves the treatment of dental deformities and malocclusions (uneven bites). Orthodontics can be helpful both for children and adults. If you believe that you have orthodontic problems or would like to discuss such issues as braces, please make an appointment with Dr. Morton Silver.

    Crooked Teeth Overbite

Your general dentist will be on the lookout for potential orthodontic problems in your mouth. So that you may participate in your oral health care, here are several symptoms that might indicate that you need and could benefit from orthodontia.

  • Your mouth doesn't seem to close properly because your teeth are misaligned.
  • A missing tooth or teeth seems to have caused your other teeth to have moved.
  • You can't get between your teeth to clean them properly, because they are crowded together.
  • You have large, unattractive spaces between your teeth.

Orthodontia may help to alleviate the problem you are experiencing. Ask your dentist and he will be happy to discuss whether orthodontics should be a part of your dental treatment plan.
