DENTAL IMPLANTS Dental Implants, devices that attach replacement teeth directly to bones of the mouth, are alternatives to conventional bridges and dentures. Implants solve many problems associated with removable dentures. By fastening replacement teeth securely, they give successful wearers a sense of security about the way they look and feel. A variety of restorations are possible with implants; everything from replacing a single tooth to supporting a complete bridge or denture!
Types of Implants: Several different types of implants are available, designed to meet the different needs of patients. Your dental team will decide whether a single implant design or combination of implants is necessary for your individual case. The Insertion Procedure: Implants are submerged under the gum tissue and attach directly to the bone. After an initial healing period, the top of the implant is exposed and a post is attached to support a bridge or denture. We have diagrams available which will illustrate the process to you and help to make the details even clearer.
Benefits and Risks: Not every patient is a candidate for implants but dental implants may offer solutions to patients who cannot successfully use conventional dentures (particularly bottom dentures). Implants are also alternatives for people who have lost teeth but want to avoid removable dentures. The decision to use one form or another of an implant can only be made after careful examination and consultation with your dentist. Implants require surgery so you must be in good health. You must also have healthy gums, adequate bone in the mouth to support the implants, and be committed to meticulous oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Implant Procedures at Dentists' Office of the Hudson Valley: Not every dentist can perform the complex procedures involved in implants. Special skills and training and a combined effort of your general dentist, oral surgeon and/or periodontist are required. This office has expert staff necessary should you decide to choose dental implants for yourself (please see press release excerpt below). The results can be wonderfully exciting. 1 Sketch of Implant Procedure 2 Abutments for Screw Retained Restorations 3 Abutment Collars with Hexed Screws 4 Abutment Collars with Tapered Screws Photos 2,3,4 Courtesy of Paragon Implant Company |
