A LITTLE HISTORY . . .

Dr. Allan I. Abolafia and Dr. Allen W. Ackerman are the foundation of the quality care that we offer our patients.

The doctors first became friends in dental school when "fate" put them next to each other in the classroom seating order (alphabetically, "Ab" came out near "Ac"). When they graduated, the two opened a practice in Poughkeepsie and remained there from May 1979 through the middle of 1985. In January of 1983, they opened the practice, at the Hudson Valley Mall . . . and so, Dentists' Office of the Hudson Valley was "born."

In fall of 2006, Dentist's Office of the Hudson Valley moved into their new state of the art building, located at 1733 Ulster Avenue, Lake Katrine, NY. 12449.

The concept then, as it is to this day, was to develop a practice that was caring, convenient, and comprehensive which offered quality dentistry at affordable prices. The Dentists' Office continues to provide a friendly, professional, patient-centered environment, with a team dedicated to the well-being of patients, who cooperate toward that end.

The practice started with the two general dentists, Dr. Abolafia and Dr. Ackerman, a general dentist associate, three specialists, three front desk personnel, three dental assistants, and one hygienist. We are proud to have grown in the number of our staff, and, of course, in our clients of record.

OUR GENERAL DENTISTS

Dr. Allen Ackerman is a graduate of Queens College. He received his dental training at New York University College of Dentistry and did his dental residency at Goldwater Memorial Hospital; New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. Dr Ackerman furthers his education by taking numerous continuing education courses, including implant prosthetics, endodontics and esthetic dentistry.  He is certified in the placement of Lumineers® as well as the ZOOM!® tooth whitening procedure.  Practicing dentistry since 1978, Dr. Ackerman has been with the Dentists' Office of the Hudson Valley since 1983.


Dr. Ackerman is married; he and his wife live in Poughkeepsie. A daughter and son-in-law live in Austin, Texas with their two sons. His son completed a Masters in Education Psychology and uses his motivational skills as a personal trainer and nutritional consultant in the Albany area.  His youngest daughter attends Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.  She is pursuing a career in Social Justice and Economics.

Dr. Ackerman is an avid runner and cyclist; he has completed numerous marathons and century bike rides.  He enjoys skiing and traveling as well.

Dr. Ackerman is a member of the American Dental Association, the New York State Dental Association, the Ninth District Dental Society, and the Dutchess County Dental Society. These memberships are important to our patients because they ensure that the doctors keep themselves appraised of the newest dental techniques and are in an ongoing dialogue with colleagues to keep updated on important developments in dentistry.

Dr. Timothy Tufankjian came to work at The Dentists' Office in March, 2005. Since then he has built a reputation of kindness and masterful competence.  "Putting patient care and comfort as a top priority" has always defined his practice philosophy.  He is also committed to continuously learn about the latest trends and leading edge technology in dentistry.  This helps him to provide the highest quality of care possible.

Dr. Tufankjian did his undergraduate work at Pace University in White Plains, New York.  He graduated cum laude and he became a member of The National Honor Society. He then went on to the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine where he learned the art of dentistry.

Dr. Tufankjian is currently unmarried but enjoys many outdoor activities with his girlfriend Tara.  On many summer weekends you can find Dr. Tufankjian mountain hiking at Minnewaska State Park outside of New Paltz.  He also enjoys racquetball and going to the gym.  He is currently in the process of buying a townhouse in the area.

Dr. Joseph Muscatiello has been in practice for 5 years. He is a graduate of Tufts University and completed two years of General Practice Residency at Stony Brook University Hospital. Dr. Joe continues to stay ahead of the latest techniques through many hours in continuing education and professional membership in such organizations as the American Dental Association, The Academy of General Dentistry, The New York State Dental Association, the 3^rd district Dental Society and is an associate member of the Dutchess County Dental Society.

Dr. Muscatiello is certified in the placement of Invisalign®. Dr. Joe has completed a one year Implant Placement course at New York University and is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

Dr. Erin Prunty is the newest addition to our General Dentistry staff, providing our patients with a comprehensive range of dental services. She grew up in the Hudson valley and is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Prunty completed her General Practice Residency at the V. A at Castle Point. She is a member of the American Dental Association, The New York State Dental Association, the 9th District Dental Society and the Dutchess County Dental Society. Dr. Prunty is committed to excellence in dentistry and strives to remain at the top of her profession

OUR SPECIALISTS

Donald M. Toporoff, D.M.D. specializes in periodontics and holds certification in placement and restoration of dental implants. An honors graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, he completed his residency in periodontics at The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Toporoff has taken continuing education courses on such topics as: dental implants, bone grafts, soft tissue grafts, TMJ, and regeneration. He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontics and the American Dental Association. In Practice since 1988, he has been on staff at Dentists' Office since 1993.

Dr. Toporoff, his wife and two sons make their home in Westchester. In his spare time he is involved with his children's sports activities (soccer and hockey) and their school.

Morton Silver, D.D.S., specializes in orthodontics and holds certification from Columbia University in orthodonture. Dr. Silver is a Brooklyn College graduate who received his dental training at the University of Pennsylvania. He did his dental residency with the Veteran's Administration and has been with Dentists' Office since 1991.

Dr. Silver lives with his wife in Monsey, New York. They have four grown children, one boy and three girls. In his free time Dr. Silver plays tennis, enjoys running and, most especially, loves to entertain his grandchildren.

Dr. Marc Schachter, D.D.S.
Dr. Schachter is a graduate of City College of New York. He attended New York University College of Dentistry and did his general residency in dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He completed a residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

A member of the Rockland County Dental Society, Dr. Schachter is a past president of the organization. He is on staff at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Schachter has been practicing dentistry since 1977 and has been with Dentists' Office of the Hudson Valley as an on-site specialist, since 1985.

He makes his home in Rockland County, where he lives with his wife. He has four grown children. In his free time he serves on the Board of Trustees of the Rockland County Day School, enjoys skeet shooting and motorcycling.

Dr. Karl E. Krause is the newest specialist at The Dentists' Office.  Originally from Deposit, NY Dr. Krause went to Ithaca Collage for his undergraduate education.  While at Ithaca, he was a member of the Bomber football team.  Dr. Krause went to Boston University for his Dental Medicine education, and completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery training at West Virginia University.  He has received many awards for Excellence in Patient Care and Facial Trauma Research.

Dr Krause is married to his wife Julie, and together they have a son, Mason.  He enjoys spending time with his family and English Bulldog, Wilma.  He also fills his free time by weight lifting, jogging, football and fishing
